This is part 1 of a series of posts entitled “The Keyboard is my Friend” where I highlight specific keyboard shortcuts that you could be using on your computer to help you boost productivity. This post highlights keyboard shortcuts specifically for windows and windows applications. Here are the top 15:

  • Switches between minimizing all open programs and showing them all. Win + D
  • Opens the Run Window Win + R
  • Open System Properties Win + Break/Pause
  • Copy the selected item CTRL while dragging an item
  • Select / highlight a block of text CTRL+SHIFT with arrow key
  • Browse through windows in the order that they had been opened Alt + Esc
  • Copy the file CTRL + C
  • Paste the file CTRL + V
  • Cut the file CTRL + X
  • Undo CTRL + Z
  • Reverse last Undo action if possible CTRL + Y
  • Open Utility Manager Win + U
  • Open Windows Exporer Win + E
  • Open Context Menu Shift + F10
  • Navigate tabs on a tabbed screen Ctrl + Tab

    these are windows commands :(
    You should post something cross platform.

    Some people avoid getting a keyboard with a windows button.
