ForĀ a project I have been working on recently, I realized I needed a better solution for the Login/Register functions in WordPress than just the typical “Meta Widget” provided. I also did not want to edit my widgets.php file because it’s in the WP-Includes directory and would risk getting overwritten when needing to upgrade WordPress. So I searched and searched for the right plugin and installed one after the other until I found the right one.
The WordPress plugin is called the MiniMeta Widget and it is of course a widget for your sidebar. The widget gives you more control over what is and what is not on your “Meta Widget”. For example, the default WordPress meta widget comes with a link to wordpress.org which you may not want on your blog/site. This plugin will allow you to control that without editing the widgets.php file. You can also choose to display the login form on the sidebar rather than just the typical link to the login page. This is useful if you don’t want to send people to another page for them to login and you want to make logging in easier.
Here are the list of the other main features:
- Diffrent logon types (form,link)
- Uses redirection for logon/logout
- All standars WP Links can enabled/disabled
- Additional Admin Links (from Plugins too)
- build in style sheet support
- Full K2 SBM support
Here’s basically what the widget ends up looking like on your sidebar:
And here is what the main configuration of the widget looks like for customization purposes:
I highly recommend this plugin if you are looking ot build a small community of users for your blog!!!

I am trying to add a way for people to register if they don’t own a log in. I know that the mini meta has an option for it but I am getting an error: have to activate register. how do I do that?
Thanks

I already try mini meta on my gala bingo site but it doesn’t function at correctly. Or maybe it doesn’t fit my theme. I need a sliding top panel for register/login to fill any kind of templates.
