This is a great script. Security... sure its an issue, but that means that what ever site has this integrated is stealing passwords. No different than any of a dozen Web 2.0 sites that imports contacts. There is area fro abuse on any system. As far as configuration, It works fine for me. I (of course) am a software engineer, and can read others peoples code. So it only takes a litle bit of reading of the example and you pretty much have full control over the code.

5 stars. much needed library.

Yes, I have tested OpenInviter. It is very difficult to integrate and the customization is horrible.
You can only customize some basic email parameters.

The script is fine but it is not complete and you cannot use it without having programming skills.
Here you can review another script , tell a friend with contact importer.

It has a lot of features including admin panel, reward systems, reminders, reports, etc :
www.super-tell-a-friend.com

Test online <a href="http://www.super-tell-a-friend.com/" rel="nofollow">tell a friend contact importer</a>

OpenInviter is cool. That debug feature is disabled and you can even delete it entirely if you wish. But the script is really cool.

Like OpenInviter said, remote debugging is disabbled by default. So no they are probably not "stealing" paswords. But the potential for a privacy breach is there.

Thank you for your opinion Dalin.
We are hurrying into adding more services lately that we forgot that we are not the only ones using OI :) (yup, we are using it, that's why we are developing it)

IT IS open source. A GPL agreement will be added to the package.
The reason of registering is because we want to offer auto updates later on (based on that little api string)
The debug feature (which comes disabled) has been required by our members.

I agree, the whole concept is a horrible idea. It encourages people to misunderstand personal security.

But the problem is only going to get worse until the big email providers implement real tools to do this sort of thing. The most promising technology in this area is probably <a href="http://oauth.net/" rel="nofollow">OAuth</a> which is a sister to OpenID. But currently none of the big providers are making any real efforts in this regard. It may take a big security breach to get change to happen (i.e. some site uses one of these email username/pass forms to harvest millions of emails for nefarious uses).
