Remember the open source analytics web application Piwik? If you don’t read up on my post about building your own Google Analytics to learn more about Piwik. Anyways, there is a really cool Adobe Air application that allows you to view your website analytics from Piwik on your desktop! The Adobe Air app is called Desktop Web Analytics for Piwik.
Why Would You Need Desktop Web Analytics?
If you are an active webmaster of any kind, you understand how time consuming it can be sometimes to check your web analytics. Open up a new tab in Firefox, go to your url, login, then view your stats. This can be a pain in the rear for some. And it has been for me. This desktop app for Adobe Air allows you to view the stats directly from an app on your desktop, that can run constantly and fetch updated stats every few minutes.

Desktop Web Analytics for Piwik is still in Alpha stage in it’s development. But hopefully some more people can jump on board and help out the developer of this project and keep it’s progress going. I have found this Adobe Air application to be a huge time saver for me and I hope it finds a good use for you.
There is also another up and coming desktop app for Piwik called the Piwik Connector. Keep an eye out for that. It’s currently not as robust as Desktop Web Analytics for Piwik, but it appears to be a little more stable in it’s development. Oh and in case you still need to install Adobe Air or learn more about it, click here.
