The Quicktext addon for Mozilla Thunderbird allows you to create email templates to place within email messages that you create. Here’s why you will find this addon useful. Often times, we find ourselves responding to certain kinds of email the same way every time. In this case, rather than having to rewrite your response every single time, you can automate that process with this addon. Very very useful.

For example you might often get emails that you need to respond to but just don’t have time right away. You can create an email template that says “I’m super busy right now. But I will look into what you sent me and get back to you in the next couple of days.” See what I mean? You can automate that email with this addon to save you some serious time.

Quickly getting started with Quicktext

Download the plugin here and follow the instructions they give you for installing the addon for Thunderbird. Once you have done that, go to the Quicktext menu item under tools in your Thunderbird client:

Now that you do that, begin setting up groups and templates for each group. As you can see with my screenshot below, I have created a new group and a template for that group called “I’m Super Busy Right Now”. I added the body of the email as well as a simple footer with my name and url to my blog. I added a shortcut key of Alt + 1 so that I could easily with the touch of my keyboard create this email on the fly.

Notice that you can also create a subject line and that subject line will be added to the email automatically as well. Click save and you are good to go! Test it out by creating a new message and using the shortcut key that you have created.

So far this addon for Thunderbird is saving me between 30 minutes to 1 hour per day!!! I can’t say enough about how happy this addon has made me and how much it is doing for me. I highly recommend using this addon for Thunderbird, and using Thunderbird if you are not already!
