Some of you are asking for help finding the CATS 0.8.0 download because it is nowhere to be found. No worries. I kept a .tar file of it for safe keeping, just in case something like this came up. You can download it here:
Here are the installation instructions:
1) Unpack the tarball into the web directory (/var/www/html,
/usr/local/apache2/htdocs, or similar). Make a symlink to
cats-0.8.0/ or rename the cats-0.8.0/ directory to cats/.
2) Start MySQL as the root user and create a new database and username.
mysql> CREATE DATABASE cats;
mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `cats`.* TO ‘cats’@'localhost’ IDENTIFIED BY ‘password’;
3) Make sure that the web server has permission to write to the
attachments directory.
# chown apache:apache cats
# chown -R apache:apache cats-x.x.x/
# chmod 770 cats/attachments
4) Visit installwizard.php from a browser to invoke the installer. *
5) Follow the on-screen instructions.
* Tip: If the installer does not load, check to see if there is a file
called ‘INSTALL_BLOCK’ in the CATS directory. Delete it to allow the
installer to be executed.

Is it possible to use this version to create a new Open Source fork of CATS? I’d like to contribute and have access to the source also - seems like a basic laws of the universe has been violated by removing an open source project from “open” existance. What would happen if we put CATS 0.8 up on sourceforge and encouraged further development?

Thanks for that, I still have a version 0.7 available if you would like to include it in the above list, also do you have the 0.9 version I would not mind seeing what was done to the .9 version and maybe combining it with .8 keeping the best bits of both.

Thank you for your link
Greedy People like cats owner tend to use and abuse users faith to make money and give a bad name to open source.

Guys,
as per the comments from bertbeck - I’ve started a new site to progress the ‘open source’ version of cats. If you have older versions, then please pop them into the forum over there - so we can get a complete history. I’ll get a subversion server up and running as well as soon as I can figure it out! Sourceforge wouldn’t touch the project as the Cats Public License restricts some types of redistribution (you’re not allowed to offer/resell CATS as a service to multiple companies) - so I’ve put together my own site at http://www.catsone.co.uk - as catsone.org is already taken by the original project.

Thank you so much for this! I am an open source user of CATS. When we were in the process of making some changes to the system as we are a new company, we could not get any support from the forums. I emailed the developers and told them about this. Believe it or not a few minutes later, they opened the old forums back up again for the day but closed them. I still don’t understand why they closed down the support for the open source community. The user forums were very helpful and it was a great way to stay connected and communicate with other CATS users.
I will definitely be joining the CATSone.uk group! Thanks again!!!

That seriously sucks that they didn’t help you out at all. Definitely join the Catsone.uk group! Let’s build up some momentum there and if we can build some support and additional code/testing.
