An Open Source Weblog Other Than WordPress

CMS, Open Source, Web Development no comments

I recently installed and configured Serendipity, an open source blogging software built in PHP and MySQL. It was referred to me by my boss Parl Johnson who was excited about it because it uses PHP Smarty Templates, which apparently make it easier to edit and manipulate the look and feel. I went to www.s9y.org to go to their website and I downloaded the files, unpackaged them and installed them on my Bluehost.com server account. It worked beautifully. No problems on the install whatsoever. I set it up here… serendipity.chasesagum.com if you want to check it out. It’s similar to wordpress in it’s functionality such as posts, pages, and RSS capabilities. The big difference though would be the Smarty feature. The Smarty feature could very well be the decision maker for you if you are looking for some heavy design on your weblog. It’s just much more easier and organized for programmers to manage the look of your site when using Smarty. If a smarty weblog system is what you are looking for, than look no further than Serendipity Open Source weblog software. Go to www.s9y.com to visit the site and download the files.
