I spent time this morning installing and working on Wikyblog, an open source blog and wiki hybrid content management system. I have a lot about it from some of my peers and was interested and taking it for a ride myself. I’m going to say it, WikyBlog is the bomb! It really is. It was easy to setup and install and easy to figure out how to use. There was plenty of documentation on the homepage www.wikyblog.com for me to read through when I had questions. It has an Ajax enhanced tabbed interface that makes moving from page to page very easy and fast. That feature I appreciated. It incorporates easily with Google Maps and has some prepackaged templates right from the original install.
I guess what I love most about WikyBlog is the concept. The idea of having a blog content management system with the ability to treat it like a wiki is fascinating. Blogs and Wiki’s are both great because they encourage collaboration and communication. But each has benefits that the other does not have. By combining the two, you get the great features of both a blog and a wiki. I still have not figured out quite yet how I want to incorporate this tool with anything that i’m doing but i’m sure I will think of something soon. I will let you readers know. For now, check it out by going to www.wikyblog.com and install one for yourself like I did this morning.
